Grotto & Friends

In western Iowa there are numerous small towns with tall elevators and water towers marking their place in the landscape of corn and soybean fields. One small town has a unique extra. The Grotto of Redeption is in West Bend. This huge structure was created by three men over decades, the inspiration of one priest assigned to West Bend.

This is a place I have visited dozens of times and part of my own memory tour I guess. We also stopped in another small town, another cafe where people gathered and everyone knows each other. We visited with my cousin and husband, received photos from decades ago she found in my aunt’s things. Lots of memories.

In the last few days we have visited several friends and unfortunately not gotten pictures of all of them. Oh how wonderful it is to see people face-to-face. Share a cup of coffee or a meal and catch up. Special thanks to all of you who have taken time for us!

The trip has exceeded our expectations so far. Now we venture into all new territory and experiences.
