Papa and I arrived in the early afternoon. We walked up and down the boardwalk on Allen Street lined with shops, restaurants and bars/saloons. Saw the stagecoach. The Bird Cage Theater. Had a delicious pizza at Big Nose Kate’s Saloon and listened to live music. (More information tomorrow) It was a pleasant afternoon; a step back in time to the Wild West.
Papa and I often remark how things fall into place and how grateful we are. That was true once again. As we checked into our cabin and walked inside with our things, the rain started. For the next two hours, the rain fell complete with thunder, lightning and lights flickering. We took a nap. We sat on the porch swing and enjoyed iced tea. It was a perfectly relaxing time.

Rested, and appreciative of the cooler temperatures and clearing skies, we headed out for the nighttime ghost tour. The sunset was absolutely stunning. But the magical part of Tombstone was our remarkable tour guide. It was just Papa and I on the tour and the guide was attentive, knowledgeable and filled us full of stories for over two hours.
We learned about the O.K. Corral shootout. The bustling town of over 10,000 people back in the silver mining days. And, of course, the ghost stories. The town was pretty much deserted so walking Allen Street at night was very different. Big Nose Kate’s was locked up and dark. In the darkness, we were able to “see” the ghost who resides in the saloon.
Tomorrow’s post we will share a few more pictures and some Tombstone trivia.
