Outside the community of Maricopa is an amazing trip back in time. The Dwarf Car Museum is filled with custom cars that have been cut down to dwarf size yet are large enough to be street-legal. Ernie, the owner, has driven these cars across the country to various car shows.
In addition to vintage cars, the barn-like warehouse is filled with a large variety of antique and vintage items: toys, furniture, appliances and more. Every direction you turn is another memory, an item from years ago and stories to share. Most days you will find Ernie there and he's open to talk with the visitors and share stories. Ask him about the duck photo, it's quite a story.
If you're there at the right time, you may have the opportunity to visit the backroom and visit with Ernie or one of his friends in the midst of creating another dwarf car. This handcrafted process is time consuming as they meticulously recreate every feature of a vintage car.
Cars are not something I am usually interested in, but this is a fascinating place worth the drive and the $5 donation to visit. Finish the day off with a stop by the Honeycutt Coffee Cafe. Delicious coffee, sandwiches, and desserts with fun craft items for sale.
