A few months ago, friends invited us to see a tribute band named "Toast." It was at The Venue at Farnsworth Hall. Ticket prices were good. Venue was close by. We decided to give it a try. That was a fun evening and the tribute band was really good. I especially liked their explanation of why they were called Toast, "Because we know you want your Bread well done." Clever.
In April, we took visiting family members to another concert at The Venue. This time it was a Chicago tribute band. Yes, they had a horn section, and did quite well. Unfortunately one of their band members experienced an airport delays and missed the concert. That would probably have made their good concert a great one, since Chicago had an amazing horn section. It was still good.
Last night was a Neil Diamond tribute band. Overall, very good performance. I was surprised how many songs I knew, like all of them? Did I really listen to Neil Diamond that much when I was a teenager? Apparently. The band played for two hours with a 15-minute break. They got the audience into it. It was good and our friends who went with us seemed to enjoy the band and their inaugural trip to The Venue.
I should mention at the first concert we sat near the front. The second was at a table in the middle. Last night, we were toward the back. Honestly, I didn't see any difference in the quality, thanks to a descent video setup. They have a large screen behind the band plus a screen on both the left and right sides of the stage. Video is changing often enough to give close-ups of performers and an overall view of the stage. Good use of technology.
And the crowd attending has significantly grown over the few months we have attended. That is surprising since it's the time of year when the snowbirds fly north. There are still a good number of people who are looking for reasonably priced, good music apparently. We will keep our eyes on upcoming concerts for sure.
