2023: Year of the Road Trip

Last weekend was Labor Day. That means kids around the country are back in school. With kids back in school, family vacations are in the books for this year. Sounds like just enough motivation for retired folks, like us, to go back on-the-road. And, IF we're trying to justify another road trip, a second reason is we need a break from our very hot summer. It's still over 100 degrees! Makes sense, right?

Oh, and third, when we returned from our trip a year ago, we purchased a new car. We wore sweet Betsy out. In the eleven months since we replaced Betsy with BetsyB, we have logged over 14k miles and traveled through 14 states. She is now officially "broken in" and ready for a marathon.

So yes, we are on-the-road again. Daily travel posts start now as we

embark on another marathon road trip. The 2023 Road Trip #4 intrigues us with possibilities we only dreamt about decades ago. Personal milestones await. As do potential challenges, which we pray never happen.

Papa and I know we have been very fortunate in our travels. We have skirted storms visible in the distance. We slept safe and warm during overnight downpours, which shook the windows. We experienced a hailstorm that looked like snow on the ground during a coastal drive in Washington State. Of course, a year ago, dear Betsy had a breakdown in Salt Lake City.

Those are very minor inconveniences overall. Most of the time we encounter beautiful skies, pleasant driving and moderate temperatures as we roam about the country. So why do I sit here this morning with big questions running through my mind:
After all the planning and preparation, will we be blessed with another low-stress, awe-inspiring trip?
Have I built up expectations too high as I've dreamt about some of the places?
    Expectations. Weather. Health.

So many emotions, yet, like I said, we have been fortunate before and can roll with whatever happens. It's an exciting adventure.  Follow along. Of course, prayers for a safe and pleasant trip are appreciated! And we would love to hear your comments, suggestions, and experiences too!
