The primary destination for this road trip was Georgia. The weather has been perfect there since we left, of course. Sweet Chloe, we miss that little pup almost as much as her people. We will be back!
When brainstorming about the trip months ago, Papa and I realized we could complete a long-term goal. When we were newlyweds, we placed a high priority on one particular bucket list item: to visit all lower 48 states and the District of Columbia by car. Oh what an extravagant pipe-dream that was!
The third leg of our trip is devoted to visiting the remaining yet-unseen states: New England. Why not start with a lovely lunch on the porch, The Porch at Christie's in Westport, Connecticut that is. A gourmet sandwich inside where it was warm and dry, with no time constraints like tours. Just a warm, relaxing lunch! *Sigh* Relief.
Driving through Connecticut is amazing. The fall leaf colors are gradually starting, but the view we had was this…rain. We drove through the Adirondack High Peaks area, missing a hike there due to the rain.
One item on our list for today we did accomplish was driving over the Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge (or Q Bridge) in New Haven. This is a relatively new bridge, fully opened in 2015. It's low-profile and lighting would make it fun to cross at night. We do find all types of bridges fascinating and this one was stylish. I had the camera set up on the dash to get photos but, yup, rain.
The trip through Connecticut wasn’t a wash out. The rain did let up. We finally could see fall colors, and rustic rock wall fences, large stately estates and old buildings.
Yes, rain prevented us from golfing at Jamestown, Rhode Island. We did stop anyway to see some of the course and enjoyed talking with a local gal who provided great insights! And we crossed some awesome bridges like the Newport Bridge. The sky was starting to clear with little patches of blue shining through. The sun WILL come out tomorrow. Can’t wait!
