Godspeed Massachusetts

Time for a driving day. We had a fabulous 40 hours in Boston. The people were kind and friendly. We stayed in an AirBnB apartment, which meant we did laundry and got the car cleaned up. First half of the trip done and now we are refreshed for the second.

We couldn’t leave Massachusetts without a drive through the infamous village of Salem.  The House of the Seven Gables, named for its roofline and made famous by Nathaniel Hawthorne's novel with the same name, was one stop. Actually the marina visible from the House of Seven Gables was a pleasant surprise. Beautiful morning. We also drove through the quaint downtown area and places like the Witch House at Salem, only structure still standing with ties to the Salem witch trials of 1692The Phillips Houseand Salem Bancroft Public Library. Of course. The new normal is a coffee stop. Today it was Little Wolf Coffee in Ipswich. Great stop.

We briefly cut through New Hampshire on our way into Maine. Maine, the farthest northeast state, and home to another fascination: lighthouses.

Hubble Lighthouse in York, is also known as Cape Neddick Light. It is located on an island with no physical access. There is a gondola but not for public use.

I did sit on the rocks close to the water’s edge for a bit. The waves would splash up so I tried a burst photo to “catch a wave” for fun. Looks kinda ghostly. LOL!

Portland Head Lighthouse in Cape Elizabeth. It isn't open to go inside, but the grounds are open and
offer views of other lighthouses in the area. Plus there are food trucks, picnic areas and rugged coastal views. This was a very busy tourist stop.

The Marshall Point Lighthouse in Port Clyde was featured in the movie Forest Gump. The movie filmed the running scene on October 10, 1993, 30 years ago. Papa re-created that iconic scene for me. How cool!

It is gorgeous here in Maine. There is definite leaf changing. We should be able to get some great photos of that soon. Weather wise, it is cold, at least by our standards. It is like stepping into another world. At times it reminds me of the Pacific Northwest, and yet it's different. Perhaps it is the long-wait to finally make it here. Whatever, this is everything-and-more than we expected it to be. We will savor every moment here. Slow down, breathe, and log these memories.
