Golf, One More Time

The Wyoming/Idaho area is beautiful with mountains, forests, lakes, multiple campgrounds and outdoor trails and activity. Winter sounds totally different but activity continues with snowmobiling, snowshoeing, cross-country and downhill skiing.

Papa and I looked at the schedule for today and thought, yup, we can squeeze in another 9-holes of golf. We were staying in a remote but lovely cabin in Idaho. No cell phone service. So we decided to drive to Star Valley Ranch about 40 minutes away in Wyoming. It’s a new community incorporated in 2005.

We walked into the pro shop and inquired about open tee times. The two ladies behind the desk told us, nope. Mens league playing this morning so no tee times until 1PM. Ah shoot, we wanted to get in 9-holes before hitting the road.

The two ladies and a third, a golfer, provided the solution. Their 9-hole course was up the road a mile or so, located in the mountains, and we could golf right away. Perfect!

Oh my!  What a treat. This was a par 36 course. The greens were a mixture of elevated, dropped and rolling. There was water to avoid, and hills that required gas-powered golf carts to handle the grade.

All around us throughout the nine holes were spectacular mountain views and beautiful rustic homes. One of the ladies in the pro shop said her and her husband played Aspen Hills in June and there was still snow on the mountains yet the fairways were amazingly deep, thick green with spring sunshine.

After golf we went back to Cedar Hills to the initial 18-hole course pro shop. The clubhouse is a two-story building with a great restaurant on the second floor. We ate lunch on the balcony overlooking the 18th green. Like our lunch back in Bisbee, the food was so fresh and tasty! The server was fantastic offering us water-to-go and helping us pack up sandwiches for our drive ahead. A beautiful place and kind, caring people. Oh it would be awesome to have a group field trip here. So glad we added this to our day!

Full disclosure: the reason we selected this golf course is because the previous night (Saturday) we stayed in another cabin near Star Valley Ranch in Wyoming. I left my hearing aide. We almost turned back to get it but didn’t want to be late for church at the Chapel. Fortunately the cabin management called us and allowed us to stop by on our way back south today. Thus we found this golf course only minutes away. Very kind people. Turned out for the best!
