Grand Teton Again

Like with Yellowstone, we had the morning to tour Grand Teton on our own. It was Sunday so we wanted to experience church at the Chapel of Transfiguration. Built in 1925, this log cabin-like structure has original ash tree pews. The large window behind the alter perfectly frames the Tetons. The colorful wildflowers along the boardwalk leading to the church give it a welcoming, homestead feeling.

After church, we drove over 20 miles to Jenny Lake. We took the ferry across the lake. Hiked up to Hidden Falls, and beyond that to Inspiration Point, which provided a panoramic view above Jenny Lake.

There were two more places to check out before departing. Both of these locations were photographed and made famous by Ansel Adams. The first was the barn on Mormon Row. There are actually a few barns and buildings along this road. The famous one is pictured below. The lesser known one is above. We did see these last night but I wasn’t completely satisfied with the photos. Plus the morning light eliminated the front of the barn making the character of the barn more visible.

The second spot is the Snake River Overlook. When Adams photographed this spot, the trees were much smaller and the “s” of the river wasn’t obstructed as it is now. Still, I had fun taking my little iPhone photos and making my Adams-wannabe shots.

Another perfect day. We capped it off with a barbecue sandwich at Dornoon’s near the southern part of the park. We enjoyed lunch at a picnic table overlooking the Tetons. Time to drive to a remote cabin in Idaho for the night.

What magnificence we have experienced over the last few days, well the last few weeks. What a beautiful country we live in. We have met incredibly kind and helpful people, proud of the area in which they live and anxious to share.

Oh, the trip isn’t over yet. There is more to come.
