This odyssey started as a way to remember a family member. That wouldn’t be complete without a golf stop here in East Lansing. And it was a fitting stop at that.
As with a couple previous days, we drove ahead of rain so when we arrived for our tee time, we opted for 9-holes instead of the planned 18. The starter said it wouldn’t rain. Yeah. Right. The siren blew just as I chipped onto the third green. We had sprinkles and a lightning delay.
What to do? Well it was lunchtime and in fitting memory, we sat down for a hot dog and Bud light. By the time we finished, we were back on the course trying to locate the third green.
In our defense, we are used to cart paths that run the entire length of the course. These cart paths stopped after the tee area and started again at the next green-to-tee. We were carting “cross country” to find the 3rd green. Helpful golfers pointed the way and we did not get hit by flying golf balls. Whew!
Yes, we completed our nine holes and stopped. Especially with the delay, our time was slipping away and there was still more to explore.
What you ask? Michigan State University. We have visited many college and university campuses. This one is unique, in our opinion, because it is so spread out. Many streets run between well spaced buildings, making it feel more like a town. We are more familiar with campus buildings tightly placed together where foot traffic is the norm. I’m sure we only touched a small portion of MSU. We did spot large hiking and nature areas. It’s a beautiful campus.
