Kitch-iti-kipi in Manistique, Michigan. What a delightful surprise. I was tempted to skip it but so glad we didn’t. The roofed “pontoon” boat-of-sorts is docked at the walkway that leads from the park over the water.
The “pontoon” itself is basically a walkway around the perimeter with a large fenced opening in the center to view the crystal clear fresh-water spring lake. The view is enhanced as the pontoon leaves the dock and goes across the small lake. The power is supplied by passengers who take turns turning the large wheel on the pontoon that moves it over a heavy, well-anchored cable in the water. Quiet. Cost effective. In the middle of the lake is a marvelous view of the springs 45 feet below, which look like mini-mushroom clouds. There are numerous large fish happily enjoying their clean environment.
Keeping with a water-theme, we head to Marquette to see a lighthouse and Lake Superior. Oh, but we cannot pass up a chance to try pasties (pass-tees). It’s a pastry filled pot pie-like item. Papa and I split a veggie one and it was good.
Marquette Lighthouse was an informative tour of the museum and lighthouse grounds. Learned a lot about shipwrecks including the Edmund Fitzgerald. Definitely need to listen to that Gordon Lightfoot song again! It was a quick visit to Lake Superior, enough to raise our curiosity.
This is a driving day but we try to break up the “sit” time on our way back south with a stop in Gladstone at Van Cleve Park. What a beautiful spot. We had a great walk around the marina and out to the pier. Plus one last toe-dip in Lake Michigan.
Here’s where things get a little dicey. We’re crossing over the border into Wisconsin. Tomorrow is a big golf day but tonight we are in Green Bay. There is one iconic spot in Green Bay: Lambeau Field. Yes, yes we did.
We even entered the Pro Shop…and purchased something! Not for us, a gift. Ultimately we just couldn’t stomach that cheesehead mindset. Nope!
We have been so fortunate to have amazing weather and smooth sailing. Will it continue? Big golf day tomorrow and for several days ahead. Fingers crossed.
