Although we did not golf Torrey Pines, we did find a couple courses with available tee times. Not an easy thing to do at the height of the season. One of the courses was another “memorial” course, a course Papa’s father played. Unfortunately the record rainfall in the area plus below-normal temperatures made Mountain Meadows somewhat unpleasant. Our foursome played nine holes and called it a day. On a beautiful summer day, it would be fun to try the course again. We had a delicious lunch before golf. It is a respectable golf club.
The following day we drove to Palm Desert and marveled at the beautiful accommodations at the Villas. After a comfortable, well-rested night, we awoke to discover it rained. That had us concerned about course conditions, especially after receiving an email cautioning of potential issues. By the time we arrived at Cathedral Canyon in nearby Cathedral City, all was good. We played 18 holes and gazed at the beautiful snow-capped mountains. The starter informed us that the snow levels were the lowest he had seen them in 25 years.
The colder-than-normal and wetter-than-normal weather made for beautiful scenery. The mountainsides were lush green, something we haven’t witnessed in years!
