Burrow Roadblock

Resuming our Road Trip #3:  After a fabulous start to the day at Lake Havasu City, we headed to Oatman, Arizona. We stopped here for the first time last year during Road Trip 2022. Since our destination this trip was Monterey Bay, we decided to revisit a few of the spots from last year. Oatman doesn't disappoint. It can be a quick stop or you can wander the wild western boardwalks and visit the shops.

Since we just had a great breakfast, we passed on the favorite ice cream stop in Oatman. Knowing the drill, we parked close to the shop at the end of Main Street that sells burrow food. When in Oatman, you want to feed the burrows. We starting walking up the street...yes, it's an old west, dusty street and you can walk it.

There was one lone burrow walking up the middle of the street. A local gal came out to talk to him, Oliver. I caught pieces of their exchange on video.

It was a quick visit, but we had miles to cover so we walked and drove the main drag a couple times and then headed out to our next stop. Well, we tried. A couple miles out-of-town a pack of wild burrows created a roadblock. We complied and stopped as the apparent leader of the herd sauntered toward us.

Heeding advice, we kept the car windows up as the burrow approached the driver's side window, tapping his nose against the glass, his way of demanding food. He was not giving up. He moved to the windshield. No luck. He moved around to the passenger side and demanded food at Papa's window.

Little did this outlaw burrow know, but we had given our sack of burrow food to a little boy on the street back in town. It is as much fun seeing the thrill of littles feeding the burrows as doing it ourselves. Sorry sir, you will have to head into town for food. Our pockets are empty.

After several minutes in a staredown, and with car windows a little messy (thanks), the burrow hung his head and relented. We gradually inched our way through the herd of burrows as they snorted their disappointment at our lack of ransom paid. Sorry guys. Next time. And, yes, if we have a reason to be close to this area in the future, we will make a stop in Oatman!
