Weather was absolutely perfect for kayaking on Torch Lake in Rapid City just east of Traverse City. The lake was beautiful. We had a clear kayak allowing us to see down to the bottom of the crystal clear lake. It was a Sunday afternoon with many people enjoying the series of lakes connected by rivers. Boats would come and leave Torch Lake through the river channel and, like a pedestrian crossing a street, Papa and I would quickly “walk” our kayak across their path between boats.
There were many families enjoying swimming in the shallow waters near the shore. Dogs swimming. Young people playing catch. A perfectly relaxing afternoon.
Cap off the activity-filled day with yet another meal on the lakeshore overlooking a colorful marina. Oh it is a tough deal eh?
We weren’t finished yet. The drive around Lake Michigan to the Mackinac area was incredibly scenic. There were postcard perfect towns along the way. One had miles of huge, colorful hanging flower baskets on both sides of road. Who maintains those lush blooms? So gorgeous!
As the sun began to set, the Mackinac Bridge came into view. I love crossing bridges. This one is simplistically elegant. More on Mackinac tomorrow.
